Construction is underway at Thaiss Memorial Park in Fairfax, VA, with renovations spanning from mid-December 2024 through Early Spring 2026. During this time, the park will be closed as it undergoes a significant transformation.
This $7.7+ million project, designed by Gordon/MTFA/GPI, will modernize the park by converting five existing ball fields into three new modernized ball fields that will include Musco Sports Lighting, new dugouts, bullpens, batting cages, fencing, and a scoreboard, along with new bleachers for spectators. The reconfigured parking lot will feature accessible parking and permeable concrete pavement with bioretention system areas to improve water quality. A new air-conditioned concessions building will be constructed, featuring meeting spaces, restrooms, a warming kitchen, and covered outdoor tables, ensuring year-round functionality for the community. Additionally, there will be a youth basketball court, age-appropriate playgrounds, and a fitness area with drainable rubber surfacing over pervious pavement to improve water quality from surface runoff.
The City of Fairfax selected Downey & Scott to provide Construction Management services for this exciting project. At Downey & Scott, we look forward to helping the City bring this vision to life and enhancing the park for years to come!
