Downey & Scott provided Construction Management Services which included a range of pre-construction through post construction services (including cost estimating and budget verification, schedule reviews, constructability reviews, and change order evaluation and negotiation services, to name a few) for the Virginia Central Railway (VCR) Trail project.
The project was delivered on time and on budget. The Virginia Central Railway Trail is built upon an old historic railroad bed that starts at a new trail head shelter with a kiosk and train statue near the existing train station. The trail extends for 2.7 miles across Blue Gray Parkway, then trough Alum Spring Park and across Route 1 to a point near the Idlewild neighborhood, just east of I-95.
The ten-foot-wide trail for pedestrians, bicyclists and runners includes several boardwalks with overlook, new storm drainage, striping, traffic signal, signage, trash receptacles, benches, landscaping and an 85-foot steel bridge over Hazel Run attached to historic abutments and rated for a light 5k pound vehicle to allow the City to maintain the trail.
